VTech Electronics Europe plc (company number: 02178243; registered address at Napier Court, Barton Lane, Abingdon, OX14 3YT; and registered as a data controller with the Information Commissioner's Office under number ZA156420) ("VTech", "we", "us" or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of users of:
  1. our website located at (and related sub-domains of that site) (the "Website");
  2. the Learning Lodge (the "Learning Lodge");
  3. Kid Connect ("Kid Connect");
  4. any additional digital software applications or platforms made available to you, including those offered and provided through the Website, the Learning Lodge or Kid Connect (the "VTech Software");
  5. any VTech Software compatible hardware products ("VTech Hardware Product");
  6. any support services or information provided on or in connection with the Website, Learning Lodge, VTech Software or VTech Hardware Product ("VTech Support").
To help us achieve our goal of providing the highest quality products and services, we use information from our interaction with you and other customers. We attach considerable importance to protecting your privacy and data supplied by you. Because we respect your privacy, we have procedures to ensure that your personal information is handled in a respectable manner.
We believe that it is important to inform you about our procedures regarding our processing of your personal information. This privacy policy ("Privacy Policy"), together with such other terms presented to you in relation to your use of the Website, Learning Lodge, Kid Connect, VTech Software, VTech Hardware or VTech Support (referred to collectively as the "VTech Services"), explains how information is collected, used or disclosed by VTech (on behalf of itself and its group companies (together the "VTech Group" and each a "VTech Group Company") in connection with the VTech Services and applies to your use of those services.
By proceeding to use any of the VTech Services or (where available) by registering to use any of the VTech Services, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to this Privacy Policy in its entirety and grant us permission to process (your) personal data that you have provided to us in accordance with the provisions of this Privacy Policy. We therefore advise you to read it carefully.
  1. Identity

    1. The VTech Group is a multi-national organization with legal entities, business processes, management structures and technical systems that cross border.
    2. Please be aware of the fact that, in order to process your order or provide you with the VTech Services, VTech may share your personal data with and transfer your data to its affiliates located in the EU, the USA and Hong Kong and billing companies or other third party suppliers for data hosting or servers maintenance services located in the EU, USA and Hong Kong. By providing your personal data you agree to this transfer.
  2. Object of the VTech Services

    VTech's operations include granting licenses for end users to install e-books, games and related (downloadable) software for use on VTech Hardware Products. Through the VTech Serviceswe inform visitors about the services VTech offers. The VTech Services contains public sections, which are accessible to everyone, and private sections. You can visit the public sections anonymously to find out more about VTech and the electronic products we offer through the VTech Servies. In order to purchase and/or use the downloadable products provided by VTech through the Learning Lodge, Kid Connect, the Website or other VTech Software you need to register. Using your email address and a password of your choice, you may access your account online at any time to add delete or change some of the information retained in your account. The alternative to having a registered account is being a "non-registered user". As a non-registered user, you do not have the benefit of ordering VTech's (downloadable) products via the Internet.

  3. Collected personal information

    1. Information you provide to us - We receive and store any information you submit to us via the VTech Services or give us in any other way. You can choose not to provide certain information but then you may not be able to take advantage of many of our features. By simple usage of the VTech Services or through registration where it is made available, you grant us permission to process (your) personal data, which have been provided to us via the VTech Services in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Policy. Should you decide to register, personal data that we may collect, store and use are for instance the following: name, e-mail address, gender, birth date. Although we will comply with our legal obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 and put in place appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure the security of your personal data once we have received it, unfortunately the transmission of information via the internet cannot be completely guaranteed to be secure and there is the risk that third parties may be able to intercept, misuse or alter it before the personal data is received by us. Please do not submit information that you do not want VTech to access. Please note, however, that if you do not submit the information required for registration, you may not be granted permission to use certain VTech Services and/or to download the software made available through the VTech Services.
    2. Information we collect about you - We use certain tools that allow us to collect, store and analyse information about your use of the VTech Services. For example, to maintain customer service standards and to assist staff training we may record and monitor incoming calls. In addition, we may use online automatic data collection tools to collect certain standard information that your browser sends to our server such as your browser type and language, access times, IP-address, user-agent string and click stream behaviour.
    3. Sensitive personal data - We do not and will not actively collect sensitive personal data concerning a person's religion or philosophy of life, race, political persuasion, health and sexual life or personal data concerning trade union membership.
    4. VTech does not process or store billing information. To complete a payment transaction within the VTech Services users will be directed to third party websites. VTech does not own, control or operate such linked sites, and is not responsible for the privacy policies or practices of such linked sites. The personal data you choose to provide to or that is collected by these third parties (such as credit card or PayPal information) is not covered by the Privacy Policy. Privacy policies and practices for such linked sites may differ from our privacy policy and practices. Your access and use of such linked sites is entirely and solely at your own risk. We urge you to read the privacy policies of such linked sites before disclosing your personal information on such sites.
    5. More information about data collected through the VTech Services

      Where available, certain web-connected VTech Hardware Products are designed to connect to your computer or laptop for synchronisation with the Learning Lodge or other VTech Software.

      A parent or guardian must set up an account to access the Learning Lodge and/or certain other VTech Software, and in those circumstances the parent or guardian will be asked to provide certain information about his or her child that will be using the web-connected VTech Hardware Product, such as the child's name, birth date, and gender.

      To access certain features of the Learning Lodge (or certain other VTech Software) or connect and synchronise the web-connected VTech Hardware Product, the parent or guardian should log in to his or her account. Therefore the VTech Services are designed to ensure that only the parent or guardian should be able to synchronise, upload, and submit the information from the web-connected VTech Hardware Product.

  4. Purposes of the collection of personal information

    1. Personal data are collected to provide information and services to you, and to allow VTech to (i) analyze and monitor information about consumer and customer activity so that we can administer, improve and develop the VTech Services; (ii) promote and support the VTech Services; (iii) keep the VTech Services available for you in a clear, orderly, secure and direct manner and provide you with the information and VTech Services you have requested (iv) develop a knowledge base regarding the users and customers of the VTech Services (v) correspond with you (for example, to notify you about changes to the VTech Services or to contact you for views about the VTech Services). The play activity collected from the web-connected VTech Hardware Products is used to (1) allow parents or guardians to track the child's learning progress while using the device, and (2) recommend additional VTech Services to parents or guardians based on the child's preferences and learning progress.
    2. Each registered user has the choice of receiving announcements and promotions from us via e-mail. You will receive promotional email messages from us only if you have agreed to receive them by having the box for agreeing to email communication checked when (i) entering your registration and/or (ii) changing your settings at Account Settings after registration. Additionally each time you receive an email message from VTech, you will be given the opportunity to no longer receive email communication from VTech and to unsubscribe from our mailing list. If you choose to unsubscribe we will stop sending you email messages. To help us make email communication more useful and interesting to you, we may receive a confirmation when you open our email messages if your computer supports such capabilities.
  5. Sharing of personal information

    1. When we ask for your personal information, it is so that we can provide the VTech Services you have requested. This may require us to share information with third parties, for example to enable us to process your order.
    2. The data that VTech collects from you will be transferred to, and stored at, a server outside the European Economic Area ("EEA"), including in the USA or Hong Kong. It may also be processed by staff operating outside the EEA who work for VTech, VTech Group Companies or for one of VTech's (or a VTech Group Company's) partners. Such staff may be engaged in, among other things, the fulfilment of your order, the processing of your payment details and the provision of support services. For example, if you purchase a downloadable product through the VTech Services, like any other retailer we will have to provide your credit card information to our credit card processor and authenticator for payment purposes. To improve the products and services offered, VTech may share data collected through the VTech Services with business partners such as designers and may provide data to parties that provide support services for any of the VTech Services. By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing.
    3. We may use third-party advertising companies to serve ads on our behalf. These companies may employ cookies and action tags (also known as single pixel gifs or web beacons) to measure advertising effectiveness.
    4. We may be required to disclose personal information without prior notice in response to law enforcement activity or other governmental request or to comply with any legal obligation, to enforce our (or of any member of the VTech Group's) contract or property rights including any of terms presented to you in relation to your use of the VTech Services, due to a sale or merger of one or more of our assets, or when otherwise required by law or when necessary to protect ourselves, our customers or a member of the VTech Group. Information we collect may also be transferred in connection with any sale or merger of the company or any division or business line of the company to which the information relates.
    5. We may also pass aggregate information on the usage of our Website to third parties but this will not include information that can be used to identify you.
  6. Data collection tools

    1. We may use "pixel tags"(also known as "tracking pixels" or "web beacons") which are small graphic files or other data collections tools that allow us to monitor the use of some of the VTech Services. These data collection tools enable us to collect technical and statistical data about your use of some of the VTech Services. Technical and statistical data are the IP address, time of visit, user agent string, browser type, monitor size etc. Data obtained in this manner is purely for our own use. The use of data collection tools is industry standard technology used by most companies.
    2. As explained before one of the ways in which we may use pixel tags is through a third-party service provider to serve ads on our behalf across the Internet. They may collect information about your visits to the VTech Services, and your interaction with our products and services.
  7. Storage

    If you choose to become a registered user of a VTech Service (where it is possible to do so), your personal information will be saved on a server that may be located in the USA or Hong Kong to facilitate your future purchases via the VTech Services or enable us to continue providing the VTech Services to you.

  8. Security

    VTech complies with its legal obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 to put in place appropriate technical and organizational measures to ensure the security of your personal data. If, notwithstanding such compliance by VTech, any of the VTech Services suffer an outage, corruption, attack, virus, interference, hacking, intrusion, data loss, theft or unlawful removal, or any other loss, damage, compromise or impairment, VTech shall not be liable and disclaims all such liability to the fullest extent permitted by law.

  9. Retention period

    VTech does not retain personal data in a form in which the person in question can be identified any longer than required for the objectives for which it is collected and then processed.

  10. Request to access

    You have a right to access your personal information. If you are a registered user, you may exercise this right by visiting the "Account Settings" section of the relevant VTech Service you are using. From this link, you can view, update or delete certain of your personal information from our database.   11. Request for removal or correction

    1. If your name, postal address or other personally identifiable information changes, you may update, correct or omit the relevant information by visiting the "Account Settings" section of the Learning Lodge."
    2. Anyone may at all times withdraw their permission and request that their data be removed. Upon request, VTech will immediately (or at least as soon as possible) remove the data that was required for registration. As a consequence of such a request for removal of your personal data, we are (technically) forced to terminate your registration account for the specific VTech Service it applies to, which means that you will not be able to use that VTech Service from that moment on. Furthermore, all agreements you have concluded with VTech including but not limited to your licenses to install and use VTech Software on compatible hardware products will be considered terminated In order for a request for removal (or additional) correction to be carried out it is necessary that you state the data used for registration. We will contact you through the email address you provided upon registration. Send any requests for removal or correction to
    3. The data provided by you may also be removed at the initiative of VTech. VTech may, for instance, decide to do so when it is notified by a customer that the latter no longer wishes to make use of the products and/or services offered by VTech.
  12. Right to object

    In addition to your rights to object to the processing of your data for marketing purposes (as explained at section II.4.2 above) you have certain other rights under the Data Protection Act 1998 to object to the processing of your personal data. You can register an objection by using the following email address: VTech will review the request within four weeks following registration of the objection and, if it considers the objection is supported by the Data Protection Act 1998 end the processing immediately.

  13. Miscellaneous

    We encourage parents and guardians to spend time with their children using the VTech Services and to be familiar with the different features the VTech Services have to offer. The Website and the Learning Lodge is not directed to children under the age of 18. If you are under the age of 18, you should review the Privacy Policy with your parent/guardian to make sure you and your parent/guardian understand it.

  14. Amendments

    We reserve the right to amend this Privacy Policy. Any changes will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, notified to you by e-mail. We recommend that you regularly consult this Privacy Policy to ensure you are aware of any amendments.
